As the Holiday Season approaches, you may find yourself looking for an unusual gift for that thoughtful person who has everything.  Well here it is!  “FACES”—-a mystery novel written in the American realistic tradition.

The opening scene takes place in 2007 at Reeds Inn in Kirtland, Ohio.   Susan Robbins, a bold but somewhat nervous antique collector, is hosting a sale. Her prize item is a rare secretary desk, possibly 250 years old. But she is not sure. So she and her friends have invited collectors and curious folks to examine the piece.

While this appraisal is in operation, the novel flashes back 100 years to where we meet Ebb Collard, an obscure cabinetmaker, with a tragic past. Ebb was at the Lakeview School Fire of March 1908, and this is where the story becomes intriguing. He alone knew what happened at that rear door.

Realism, as it is used in this novel, has been supported by a considerable amount of historic research. In addition,  I have taken an “in your face” approach to examining the human soul. It’s sometimes called a  warts and all approach. Someone called it the product of having “kissing lessons” with the characters. It implies expanding intimacy at least to some tolerable level. The reader comes to understand the characters in both body and soul.  You meet their pets, wild as well as tame. You touch objects with them. You see what they watch. You smell things like dead rodents and cooking griddles.

When you write this way, your characters tell you what they have to say. In fact, the characters tell this story.

In addition, from the first sentence, there is an underlying message that  accumulates throughout the book,  until in the final pages it comes into a microscopic focus. It is based on a single premise: The handprint of God is everywhwere around us, but for some reason, we fail to recognize or acknowledge its presence.

The characters’ deepest feelings drive the story toward this precision ending. A gift from some higher source beyond the author, I have to say—my readers’ diverse responses to this book still  astonish me, and I am the author! Don’t hesistate, order it now, and find out for yourself! “Faces” is a book that could change your life. (Available through Amazon.com , search “faces by Sakach” for details.)
