As we entered October, I found time to take a dear friend for a walk around Corning Pond at the Holden Arboretum located near the setting for my novel. Across from where we were seated, we spotted this Birch Tree making geometric reflections on the far side of the pond. In the foreground, you can see the last twisted leaves of the water lillies. Without belaboring the point, I believe the photo expresses that mystical message that runs through my novel. The handprint of God is everywhere.
We meditated there quietly for twenty minutes more or less, before we reluctantly decided to walk around to take a closer look at The White Birch. I am sure we will never forget the moment.
For more information contact The Holden Arboretum, 9500 Sperry Road, Kirtland, Ohio 44094. Telephone 440-946-4400 or visit the website at holdenarb.org. Holden is the largest arboreta in the United States, documenting over 120,000 plants, and also has a great collection of photographs and other art work. Now, the library there has a copy of my novel.
