Faces is based on historical events in
Cleveland’s history. On the surface, this novel is about one man’s journey. Underneath is insight into human behavior both good and bad.
Ebb is the main character. Ebb was haunted by what happened at the Lakeview School in Collinwood, OH. In 1908, a fire killed 172 children at the School. They were all bottlenecked together by the door. Although none of the facts supported it, Ebb was blamed for putting the doors on the school incorrectly. Because of the communitys animosity, Ebb took his family and fled to Kirtland in Lake County.
Changing his geography did not change his agony. He still distrusted people and was being haunted by dreams of the fire. In Kirtland he established a homestead and iked out a living by himself. His
isolation didn’t persist as Ebb met people who accepted him and were willing to help him. His neighbors took over work on his farm so that he could use his grandfather’s woodworking tools to create a work of art.
This is a great view of how people are and how they can be. Thanks!

Thanks Susie Q for your careful reading. However, I must also remind viewers that although the fire itself was an historical fact, Ebb Collard and his family and friends are creations of my imagination. No such persons existed and if they did I never intended to represent their biography. My purpose in writing this originated in two spiritual events: First, the devastation of the Lakeview School Fire was in contradiction to the Eternal Promises of a charitable God; Second, the long and difficult healing of spiritual wounds was more important than the horror of the fire. To my knowledge, this second story has never been told until I wrote this book. But I believe although it is fiction, it is still true! People recovered.
Thanks for this review.
